I wonder why you chose to include only the second half of Poe's poem, and why you made such an optimistic reading of a poem that is so pessimistic. As regards "When I compare", I'm not sure it suggests we're always trying to find excuses so as not to feel inferior. Turning to your selection from the Wife of Bath's tale, when you call the character dominant and manipulative, aren't you following patriarchal stereotypes? NB: sloppy language mistakes
There will always be unexpected situations in our lives and sometimes they will not be resolved as we want. I chose to make an optimistic reading because I think that even though situations and dreams in life will affect us or will not be achieved as expected, we should confront or manage them through another perspective or point of view. Despite the fact that life is not easy and makes us dream and picture different situations or events that we want them to come true, at least something positive we can find from them and these aspects are the ones which keep us motivated to keep on to make a constant effort to make them come true.
As regards the second poem, what i meant was that in a way we take into consideration our best characteristics of our personality to find out who we really are. I think that the best way is to try to show our best, to show our feelings and thoghts so as to show and prove our worth.
As regards the Wife of Bath's tale, what I tried to show was that the Wife of Bath's suggests another type of role as regards women, a very different one. This character at least desires to be in control of every situation and to prove that she can manage her marriage and have the total control of it. What she suggests is to leave aside every patriachal stereotype since society is based in this way. She wants to prove men that she proud of herself and that she can have the control in her marriage.
You can hold whatever beliefs you choose, but you cannot make a text say what it doesn't. You may be triggered to reflect in a different direction after considering the views expressed in the poem, though.
